Local Gas Prices Rise to Xmas Day Records

The cheapest gasoline in Culver City is selling for $3.48 per gallon.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County to a record amount for Christmas, $3.578, erasing the previous record of $3.285 set last year.

Prices are typically lower in the winter than in the summer when higher demand pushes prices up. The record price is $4.626, set on June 21, 2008.

The average price rose 1.2 cents Sunday, the third consecutive increase following a 42-day streak of decreases.

The average price is 1.4 cents more than one week ago and 29.3 cents higher than a year ago, but 16 cents lower than a month ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The average price rose six-tenths of a cent on Friday and 1.8 cents on
Saturday.
