Lightning Strike Knocks Out Power in Parts of Culver City

The lightning struck a transformer. SoCal Edison reports power should be restored by 11 a.m.

Almost 1000 people are without power in Culver City this morning after lightning struck a transformer.

While the Southern California Edison website stated that 1147 Culver City resident were without power as of 10 a.m., SoCal Edison Spokesperson Vanessa McGrady told Patch that as of 10:10 a.m. only 907 people were without power.

A local resident emailed Patch and said, "I was looking out my front window, 2nd floor, facing east, on Midway Ave., across from Ralphs and Best Buy, about 7:55 a.m. when I saw a lightning strike that looked like it hit downtown L.A. A few seconds later a thunder clap shook the house and car alarms went off up and down the street."

McGrady said that power should be resumed by 10:45 a.m. for most residents, but that part of a circuit would also need to be isolated in order to restore power to everyone. She added that the compay anticipates that approximately 10 customers will be without power while that circuit is repaired and as of 10:10 a.m. there was no indication when that work would be completed.

Patch will bring you more details as they become available.
