High Efficiency Toilet Giveaway, Christine Dahab Court Date and 7-Eleven Hearing Postponed

Also, City Council Candidate Scott Malsin fundraiser event and Culver City Patch is looking for bloggers. Here are 5 things you should know for Friday, Feb. 3.

1. After even more delays, a preliminary hearing date is scheduled to be set today for Christine Dahab, who is charged with two felony DUI counts stemming from a June 2011 crash involving a group of bicyclists near the Los Angeles-Culver City Line. The date will be set at Dept. 142, Airport Branch Courthouse, 11701 S. La Cienega Blvd.

2. The Culver City Public Works Environmental Programs and Operations with West Basin Municipal Water District and Golden State Water Company is offering Free high-efficiencty toilets to Culver City residents to help save water. Residents can receive up to two free toilets by participating in the event tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 4. To qualify, residents must:

  • have an older toilet(s) that was installed prior to January 1, 1992 and
  • it uses 3.5 or more gallons per flush and
  • live in a single-family home, condo, townhome, duplex, triplex, apartment or mobile home.

Residents must pre-qualify by calling 866-861-0784 or by filling out an application form online at www.waterprograms.com/westbasin

3. The Feb. 8 Culver City Planning Commission public hearing to discuss the proposed building of a 7-Eleven store at 4436 Sepulveda Blvd. has now been postponed until March 14.

4. City Council candidate Scott Malsin has released the details of his upcoming Feb. 18 fundraising event. The Mad Men-style "Summit at the Lodge" event will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Culver City Elks Lodge, 1160 Washington Pl. There will be a no-host bar including the 'Malsin Martini,' a live and silent auction, dinner and dancing. Tickets: $45 single, $80 couple. RSVP by Feb. 12.
