Heads Up: The History of Sawtelle and Sepulveda

In the last weeks of the semester, One Square Mile reporters explored the evolution of a single intersection in Culver City.

Sawtelle and Sepulveda Boulevards mark more than just the intersection of two of Culver City's main arteries. Overlapping layers of history reverberate into contemporary everyday life in these two well-known streets.

Over the centuries, stories and family narratives have bloomed, blossomed, withered, and cropped back up here, shaping a world most people never stop to think about. Over time, changing faces and cultures have shaped this pocket of the city, with each new generation leaving its own indelible mark on this one patch of land. Check back in the weeks as the "SawSep" team explores these different layers, unveiling the stories lying just beneath the surface--from the the tales of ranching families centuries ago, to the multimedia stories of the businesses along a "SawSep" strip mall today.
