Family of Man Killed By Culver City Police Officer Awarded $8.8 Million

Lejoy Grissom was shot three times in April 2010 after being pulled over on suspicion of robbing an electronic store.

The family of a man shot and killed by a Culver City police officer was awarded $8.8 million by a jury on Wednesday, reports the Los Angeles Times.

Jurors deliberated for only a few hours before their unanimous verdict. According to the Times Lejoy Grissom, 27, was shot on April 25, 2010 after being pulled over in a parking lot on suspicion he had robbed a nearby electronics store shortly before.

Five officers and a supervisor were also on the scene and ordered Grissom out of his car. An attorney for the family said Officer Luis Martinez fired three rounds, all of which struck Grissom. The other officers testified that Grissom had nothing in his hands when he was shot.
