El Zacatecas' Liquor License Request to Be Considered Thursday

The Venice Boulevard "bikini bar" wants to serve alcohol on its patio and upgrade its beer license to include wine, but some residents are urging opponents to attend the hearing at the West L.A. Municipal Building.

The El Zacatecas bar at 12017 Venice Blvd. is seeking zoning permission at a hearing Thursday to obtain a license to serve alcohol on its outside patio, and to upgrade its current beer license to include wine and fortified wine.

El Zacatecas bills itself as a "bikini bar" and its website advertises go-go dancers and has photographs of women wearing bikinis and lingerie. The site also says the bar has "bikini cocktail waitresses, private dancers and naughty nurses."

El Zacatecas, whose twitter account is @venicebikinibar, has been sending out tweets saying: @venicebikinibar needs your support with their up coming zoning meeting patio and alcohol up grade. 05.12.11."

Local residents who have long been concerned that El Zacatecas will eventually become a full-fledged strip club in a family-oriented neighborhood are urging people to attend the hearing to protest the bar's latest request.

Steve Wallace sent  a letter to residents last week, parts of which stated:

Not sure if you are aware of the stories surrounding this establishment, but they were enough to have LAPD Vice Squad visit the place.

From the Mar Vista Planning Meeting and the Mar Vista Council Meeting, no one wants this business here in Mar Vista as a strip bar, nor do they support the patio request or the wine request.

If you do not want a strip bar in your neighborhood, and remember when you get one, more will come, you need to attend the hearing...

The zoning hearing will take place Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the West L.A. Municipal Building, Second Floor, 1645 Corinth Ave, Los Angeles, 90025.
