E-Waste Roundup, Christine Dahab Court Date and Bluebird Café Closes

Here are five things you should know for Friday, Jan. 13.

1. After several delays a preliminary hearing date is scheduled to be set today for Christine Dahab, who is charged with stemming from a June 2011 crash involving a group of bicyclists near the Los Angeles-Culver City Line. The date will be set at Dept. 142, Airport Branch Courthouse, 11701 S. La Cienega Blvd.

2. Don’t forget that tomorrow, Saturday Jan 14, is Drive Up, Drop Off, Drive Away – the Public Works Department’s Electronic Waste Roundup event. According to a release from the City, most electronic devices contain a variety of materials, including metals that can be recovered and used again. In addition, some electronic products contain enough levels of certain materials that render them hazardous and unacceptable for municipal trash disposal.

Culver City Public Works Environmental Programs and Operations will offer an opportunity for residents and businesses to drop-off their end of life or obsolete electronic waste free of charge at the Culver Palms United Methodist Church, 4464 Sepulveda Blvd. from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

3) Bluebird Café on National Boulevard has shuttered its doors and a For Lease sign now stands in front of the property. Whether it was construction around the Expo line or just the downturn in the economy is unclear, but Bluebird’s famous cupcakes (and the rest of its fare) are no more.

4) The City has launched a new and improved website page dedicated exclusively to information from the City’s Clerk’s Office on the 2012 April 10 City Council election and will update information with additional bullet points throughout the election cycle. Everything you need to know can be found by heading to this link.
