Culver City Car Chase Suspect Apprehended

Stephen Meller eluded police in a Culver City car chase Wednesday morning but was caught in a second pursuit in Hawthorne later the same day.

A 48-year-old Santa Monica man who eluded sheriff's deputies in a  car chase in Culver City Wednesday morning was caught in a second pursuit in Hawthorne later the same day.

At approximately 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday morning, South Los Angeles Station deputies attempted to stop Stephen Meller who was wanted for fleeing from Culver City police officers during a traffic stop earlier in the morning in Culver City. 

Meller allegedly failed to yield to Culver City police before speeding off. In Hawthorne, Meller once agin failed to yield this time to South Los Angeles Station deputies, and led them on a brief pursuit on surface streets in addition to the 405 freeway.

According to South Los Angeles Station deputies, Meller finally pulled over in the 4500 block of 142nd Street in the City of Hawthorne and surrendered without further incident. 

Meller was booked for felony evading as well as driving under the influence of drugs at South Los Angeles Station. His bail was set at $75,000.
