CityTypes: The Program Coordinator

With more than 50 classes a week to plan and 600 seniors to organize, Debbie Cahill knows how to work hard.

Debbie Cahill has been organizing courses, seminars and parties for some 600 participants since the Culver City Senior Center opened seven years ago.

The Senior Center is an active social and educational hub, offering a variety of courses including arts and crafts, music, dance, yoga and tai chi. Cahill, who juggles 50 classes a week, is so good at her job that staff from other senior centers come to Culver City to not only see the facility, but also how it's run.

"One of the things I am most proud of is how progressive we are--we have just about everything people want, " Cahill said. "My favorite thing to do is to create opportunities for people to enjoy themselves, and it's beautiful when they do."
