A Diner Like No Other

S&W has become this mom's local favorite.

As I think of things I love to do in Culver City with my daughter, I can't help but think about food. While cooking at home is fun—I'm not the best cook in the world, but I'm working on it—eating out is so much better. Nothing says “small-town” like your neighborhood diner, you know, the one where you sit down, tell ‘em you want the usual, and they don’t look at you cross-eyed.

Unfortunately, for me that diner closed Dec. 18; it was called Tokyo 7 - 7. My husband and I had been going there since we first moved here in 2000. My husband had breakfast there the morning of our wedding, and we brought our daughter shortly after she was born. As she started eating solid food, she enjoyed the eggs, rice, miso soup, and most of all the avocado slices. I'm so glad we were able to eat there on the last day, and our daughter finally old enough to use the old-fashioned booster seat. We said our goodbyes, and the doors closed for good.

Now we’re exploring more ways to get the diner experience. In Downtown Culver City, there is the S&W Country Diner; I love the small town charm and the food is amazing. While they offered my daughter a high chair, but she preferred to sit in the booth like the big girl that she is.
