Pasta ‘Lab’ and Restaurant Coming to Culver City

Chef Evan Funke plans to open his restaurant – Bucato – in the Helms Bakery building in mid-December.

A pasta ‘lab’ and restaurant is slated to open in the Helms Bakery district in mid-December, reports the Los Angeles Times.

According to the Times, Chef Evan Funke – formerly of Rustic Canyon Wine Bar and Milo & Olive – will partner with restaurant operator Ed Keebler to take over the former asian restaurant, Beacon, which shut down in the summer of 2011.

The space used to be a laundry back in the 1930s and that’s why Funke says he wants to call the restaurant Bucato – the Italian word for laundry.

Funke told the Times, "We wanted to make sure that we paid homage to the history of the building," adding his cooking will be "a very Italian approach with good wine, good oil, boiling water, salt and hot steel. Very, very stripped down."
