School Wide Earth Day Project at Linwood Howe

As part of Earth Day celebrations, is creating a large art piece with a CD/DVD wall. The school posed the question:  How do you recycle old DVDs CDs as we move to technology like CLOUD and movies on I TUNES or DirectTV?  What is the weight of 600 DVDs? What is the volume of 600 used DVDs? If every elementary school aged child in California threw out one DVD what is the impact on the environment? Multiply by the entire country would they fill a football stadium?  This is part of this lesson and assembly - THINKING about waste, and the end use of items, on both a small and large scale.

The school is calling on everyone to donate CDs and DVDs to create a large art piece that will be permanently installed at the school. CDs and DVDs can be dropped off at the entrance to the school.
