California Flex Alert Issued for Tuesday

Another heat wave has triggered a statewide Flex Alert that will be in effect all day Tues, Aug. 14.

The California Independent System Operator, which manages the state's power grid, has issued another Flex Alert, this time for Tuesday, Aug. 14.

While a Flex Alert for the weekend was canceled after the ISO said people adhered to the Flex Alert on Friday, another heat wave currently sweeping the state means a Flex Alert will be necessary on Tuesday.

The ISO is asking everyone to reduce energy use by doing the following:

  • Set your thermostat at 78 or higher and turn off, if away
  • Cool with fans & draw drapes
  • Turn off unnecessary lights and appliances
  • Use major appliances in morning or late evening

While there is no Flex Alert in effect today, the ISO is calling on everyone to conserve energy as much as possible today between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Maybe more to the point, where does the methane (way more powerful than CO2 as a greenhouse gas)Read More release go from the fracking process, where do the "secret"and other cancer causing chemicals go, and who pays for clean-up costs, increased healthcare costs of residents nearby, possible increased earthquake damage, etc. and where does this oil go (we can't use it--too dirty--so probably China)?

As I understand it, fracking wells "dry up" fairly quickly, which is why pressure to keepRead More drilling so urgent. Where do the jobs go after a year or so? Just a thought....
