Man Charged With Animal Cruelty and Driving Under the Influence

Tommy Naylor, 62, was charged at Culver City police station on Friday afternoon after he abandoned a seriously injured pitbull on a Culver City sidewalk. The dog is expected to recover.

The man accused of abandoning a seriously injured dog on a Culver City sidewalk Friday morning has been charged with animal cruelty and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Tommy Naylor, 62, was arrested several hours after he fled the scene. He was taken to a local hospital to be checked out before being booked at the Culver City Police Department shortly after 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Lt. Randy Vickrey told Patch that Naylor was transported to L.A. County jail following his arrest and booking in Culver City.

The dog is currently undergoing treatment at Advanced Critical Care - City of Angels in Culver City and is expected to survive its injuries. 

Lt. Vickrey told Patch the dog's status has been upgraded from critical to stable. The dog was brought in suffering severe dehydration and was vomiting. It has been given antibiotics and fluids throughout the day.
