"The Flowering of Desire"
Donna Sternberg and dancers will present "The Flowering of Desire", which is the first in a series of performances exploring desire in the plant world. The color, shape and perfume of a flower, the sweetness of a fruit reflect a plant’s desire for propagation by drawing in other life forms that will spread its seeds. "The Flowering of Desire" examines desire from the plant’s point of view as well as the human desires that connect us to plants.
This site specific performance utilizes the urban park landscape of the Baldwin Hills Overlook as a stage for the dancers to weave in and around the plants while accompanied by live music from composer Ken Christianson.
Special guest Dr. Margot Griswold, restoration ecologist with the Los Angeles Audubon, will speak about the ecology of the surrounding landscape as well as the science and art projects that have been an integral part of the restoration process.
