Cheek By Jowl’s ‘‘Tis Pity She’s a Whore’ Comes to UCLA Freud Playhouse

CAP UCLA presents the London theatre company Cheek by Jowl’s production of the John Ford classic, from Jan. 9 through Jan. 12.

London’s acclaimed theater troupe Cheek by Jowl, which focuses on English classics, will conclude its worldwide tour of John Ford’s ‘Tis Pity She’s a Whore at the Center for the Art of Performance at UCLA’s Freud Playhouse from Jan. 9 through Jan. 12.

The play was originally written 400 years ago but still resonates with a modern audience. Described as a “violent and bloody drama [in which] incest, morality, religion and corruption all intertwine as part of a brother and sister's passionate descent into hell,” Le Figaro called it “a masterpiece. An absolute must-see.”

Britain’s Guardian newspaper says of Cheek by Jowl, the company has established an international reputation for bringing ‘fresh life to the classics using intense, vivid performances like a laser of light to set the text ablaze’

Formed in 1981 by joint artistic directors Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod, Cheek by Jowl has performed in 301 cities in more than 40 countries, with classics that include Macbeth, The Duchess of Malfi, The Changeling and As You Like It.

This is a clear warning about what will happen to our aging water and sewer infrastructure, if theRead More city allows frackers to drill under our homes. The city of Westminster in OC last week denied a drilling permit for exactly this reason. It's time for citizens to let their council members know their thoughts on this topic. Council is concerned about a lawsuit if they stop fracking. The cost of a lawsuit pales next to the cost of replacing our infrastructure. Paid by taxpayers. Thus far frackers have never operated in such a densely populated area. In rural areas, there isn't nearly as much infrastructure.
