Zeidman Calls for Extension of Measure EE at Candidate Forum

The sitting president of the school board said he will extend the tax measure in two years time, if elected. But what's your vote?

I have written quite a few blog posts about the intrinsic connection between a thriving healthy school system and Culver City home values remaining strong. There isn't a doubt in my mind that the key reason home prices here have only fallen around 21 percent from the high (in 2007), is the desire for parents to enroll their children in CCUSD in significant numbers—thereby keeping home prices strong, even in an extensively challenged economy.

At the candidates for School Board forum held earlier this week at Culver City Hall,  , called for the extension of Measure EE in two years time. For those of you that need to familiarize yourself with the details of just click here

The reason I bring this to your attention is that according to candidate Laura Chardiet, only 14 percent of eligible voters actually vote in school board elections. This is an extremely low number and therefore when a tax—or a proposed tax increase—is placed on the ballot of the school board elections, it means that 86 percent of eligible voters don't get to participate in the decision making.

Democracy works best when voters are well informed, so please tell your neighbors about this and ask them to get involved. It's your money, it's your school system and consequently the value of your home is affected.
