Something to Quack About: Duck, Dove Check Into Culver Hotel

The Culver Hotel found some unusual guests staying in one of its rooms last week.

The Culver Hotel in downtown Culver City has played host to a range of unique guests since it first opened in the early 1920's having served as a home away from home for celebrities and even the Munchkin cast of the Wizard of Oz.

Last week though, The Culver Hotel General Manager Seth Horowitz found two other unusual guests residing in a guest's hotel room – a duck and a dove.

Horowitz said he was alerted to the feathered friends after a housekeeper discovered the birds while cleaning the guest's room.

Upon entering the room, Horowitz said the dove immediately flew up and landed on his head. As he handed his phone to the housekeeper to take his photo, Horowitz said he then saw there was also a duck living in the room.

"You can imagine my delight, and consternation... These feathered friends do not come alone, they are always accompanied by their own mess, and there was plenty," Horowitz wrote in an email to Patch. "I spoke congenially to the registered guest who informed me that the DUCK was her pet and usually wears a diaper and the DOVE was rescued and was going to be let free very soon."

Horowitz said that while The Culver Hotel is pet friendly, pets are not allowed to stay overnight in the hotel and generally stay in a pet hotel nearby.

"We came to a mutually agreeable conclusion and my return hospitality was offered to her, without her feathered friends," Horowitz said.
