Patch Picks: Fourth of July Celebrations

Here are some local and inexpensive ways to celebrate the holiday.

Keep on reading for local ways to have some fun on Independence Day.

Culver City's Fourth of July Fireworks Show

Hosted by the Exchange Club of Culver City, which for over 50 years has served to improve the lives of the community’s children, the annual event will feature the hottest fireworks in town. Hot dogs, sodas, and kettle corn will be available for purchase as well as tickets for a raffle in which you can win an LCD flat screen TV and a $100 Westfield Culver City gift certificate. A $2 donation is suggested, children under 5 are free. Parking is $5 at nearby lots.

Gates open at 5 p.m., followed by the entertainment which begins at 6:30 p.m. The fireworks show begins at 9 p.m., making this the ultimate Independence Day celebration.

Marycrest Manor Skilled Nursing Facility 

Join the Carmelite Sisters and Marycrest staff for an afternoon of Independence Day festivities. Starting at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, you can enjoy a barbecue lunch, parade, patriotic concert and sing-a-long, and an ice cream social. Suggested donations for adults is $10 and $5 for children under 10 years old.

4th of July on the Beach

Travel to Santa Monica for an Independence Day at the beach. The event, which is hosted by the Ocean Park Association, will begin with a parade along Main Street with the Grand Marshals, aka The Ocean Lifeguards in the City of Santa Monica. After the parade, head over to Heritage Square for live music, food trucks, picnics, and dance. The event is free.

Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum 

Free live entertainment and games for children are just some of the activities the 9th Annual 4th of July Fireworks Extravaganza has planned for this Independence Day, which starts at noon until the 60- minute fireworks show at dusk. Although the fireworks show is not in the Coliseum, it can be viewed from Christmas Tree Lane and the south lawn. So bring your lawn chairs and your blankets and enjoy a fun day with the entire family. Parking is available at the USC campus on 39th and Figueroa Street and at Martin Luther King Jr. and Hoover Street.

Cheviot Hills Park 

Bring a blanket, chairs and a picnic to Cheviot Hills Park, just north of Culver City where you and your entire family will be able to enjoy the fireworks courtesy of the Hillcrest Country Club right across the street. Get there early, play, have a picnic and enjoy an outdoor day with the entire family as you wait for the nighttime show. The fireworks show begins at 9 p.m. and it is guaranteed to be a great view.
