Patch Picks: Celebrate Passover in Culver City

Culver City has a variety of options for the holiday.

In a nod to one of Judaism's most sacred holidays, Culver City has a range of celebrations for the would-be worshiper. Check out these fun deals: 

Akasha

The organic restaurant will present a Passover a two-night dinner and traditional Seder on Monday, April 18 and Tuesday, April 19. Traditional Seder plates such as coastal organics beet horseradish and charoset with dates, figs and walnuts will be served. The dinner will feature a variety of dishes that include escarole and radish salad, classic matzo ball soup, red vine braised brisket, matzo crusted chicken picatta, and yukon gold potato and leek fritters. Vegetarian options are also available. The dessert menu includes pistachio tortes, almond and coconut macaroons and Farmer’s Market berry compote. Passover food rules are closely followed.

Guest arrivals will be from 5:30 to 6 p.m. with the dinner and traditional short Seder at 6:00 p.m. 

Cost: $75 for adults and $45 for children under 12.

Candle Lighting 

Whether you are hosting your own Seder and do not need to make reservations at a restaurant or if you just want to continue celebrating Passover after dinner, the Chabad Jewish Community Center is participating in a candle lighting ritual to commemorate Sabbath. A candle lightning will be held on the eve of the first day of Passover on Monday, April 18 at 7:09 p.m. and will continue the rest of the week.

Roll n’ Rye 

Enjoy matzoh ball soup and other Jewish foods such as lox platters, potato knishes and blintzes  in the family-owed restaurant which has been around since 1965. Roll n’ Rye is not only a restaurant but a delicious delicatessen, which will have you returning to it after Passover.

Gallery Judaica 

Add a finishing touch to your Passover Seder with a piece of art; Gallery Judaica is an art gallery which serves the Jewish community. Materials include ceramic, fused glass, metal, and painted wood. The Passover gallery is composed of Matza trays and Seder plates. Angeli Cafe

Travel north of Culver City and enjoy a Passover Dinner at Angeli Cafe. This non-Seder meal will be held on Thursday, April 21 with two seatings at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The menu includes chicken soup with matzo balls, long cooked eggs tinted with onion skins, and hummus with ground lamb and pine nuts. 

Cost: $45, which does not include wine and taxes.
