New Exhibit Opens at The Wende Museum

A small crowd flocks to view "Red Threads."

The is celebrating its newest exhibit, “Red Threads.”

The exhibition, which was feted in a reception held last night, consists of drawings, embroidery and fabric swatches that are all from behind the Iron Curtain.

“The exhibition reveals one of the few areas of free expression in an otherwise rigid political and economic system,” said Justinian Jampol, founder and executive director of the Wende Museum.

About 50 people showed up to view the exhibit and listen to guest speakers, including Lyssa Stapleton, head curator of the Cotsen Collection and Dale Gluckman, former director of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art's Costumes and Textiles Department, according to Jampol.

The temporary exhibition will be on display for the next two months.

“The Wende Museum is committed to bringing collections to light that have never been seen by the public, and providing access to them in new and creative ways,” Jampol said.

The Wende Museum is open every Friday.
