Edison to Invest $35.1 Million in Infrastructure Upgrades Locally

The utility company says the upgrades in Culver City will help prevent unplanned power outages in the future.

Southern California Edison announced this week that it will invest $35.1 million in infrastructure upgrades in Culver City and across the Westside of Los Angeles.

According to SCE, the crews will work through the end of 2014 to upgrade underground vaults, power lines and voltage capacity to help manage electricity demand. Some work is already underway.

During upgrades, the utility company said some residents and businesses will experience planned power outages, temporary lane closures and traffic delays.

“The company will be doing a lot of infrastructure improvement projects in the near future and it’s a priority for SCE to have an on-going dialogue with customers, businesses and city leaders so that the local community is not dramatically impacted by the construction work,” said SCE Local Public Affairs Region Manager Mark Olson in a news release. “We need to complete these projects, but we’re also here to listen to questions and address concerns that folks might have.”

Olson said that residents and businesses affected by planned power outages will receive advance notification of the outages so they can make appropriate plans.

SCE also added the infrastructure upgrades will help minimize the likelihood of unplanned and extended power outages across the Westside.
