Zach Araneta, 15, won the gold medal in the Juvenile Division of the California State Short Track Speedskating Championships.

Fifteen-year-old Culver City resident, Zach Araneta, flew around the ice to claim the gold medal in the Juvenile Division of the California State Short Track Speedskating Championships held in Valencia, California on Sunday, Feb.12.

Next up for Araneta is a trip to Green Bay, Wisconsin for the USA Age Class National Championships on March 15. He’ll be joined by fellow speed skater, 12-year-old Culver City Middle School 6th-grader Aidan Williams.

A member of the DeMorra Speedskating Club in Lakewood, Araneta trains with world-renowned coach Wilma Boomstra and is following in the footsteps of current Olympic and World Cup team members J.R. Celski and Jeff Simon.
