A big crowd gathered at Veterans Memorial Park for the Culver City Historical Society's annual picnic.
Last week's picnic attracted not only members of the Culver City Historical Society, but Culver City Mayor Andy Weissman, City Councilmembers Jim Clarke and Meghan Sahli-Wells, and City Manager John Nachbar were also in attendance, according to CCHS member Kevin Lachoff.
All of the food was provided by Santa Maria Barbeque. The menu included grill choice tri-tip beef roasts and chicken served with potato salad, his special chili beans, garlic bread and homemade cookies.
Jim Rodrigues was also on hand to demonstrate some of the techniques that make the restaurant so popular.
The CCHS also used the occasion to help prepare its members for future events, including a presentation to CCHS's first president Cathy Zermino at next month's Fiesta La Ballona and the society's upcoming fall event, "Meet me in Culver City" which is scheduled to take place in September at the Culver Hotel in honor of Culver City's 95th birthday, Lachoff said.
