CityTypes: The Barber
Barbershops--once a daily necessity--are now a luxury, but George Makhoul survives on quality service and fair prices.
When George's Barbershop was established in the mid-60s, there were many traditional barbershops in Culver City. Now it's one of the only ones and technology and lean times are putting a dent in George Makhoul's business.
Even as Makhoul's regulars cut back to once-a-month visits, he survives through changing trends by offering his customers classic service and low prices --$17 per haircut.
"I say with modesty that we are the best. Everyone knows that this is where you come. It isn't just a career–a barber is one of the oldest professions in the world."
