Local businesses offer discounts and celebrations in wake of the 405 freeway closure.

Pledging that “when the 405 stops, the party starts,” Westfield Culver City is taking the stress out of this weekend’s freeway closure by hosting a two-day party filled with games, contests and free food. Mall visitors can stop by the Best Buy Court and Center Court on Saturday and Sunday between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. to participate in tricycle races, video-game contests–and even an “I Survived the 405 Closure” photo booth.

For those who don’t want to brave the traffic to hit the waves this weekend, Rush Street is bringing the beach—and great dining deals—to Culver City. On Saturday and Sunday, a beach brunch is only $20. And don’t forget that on Sunday nights from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., children ages 12 and under eat for free.

$5 Treats at the Eat Real Fest

Locals looking for some weekend fun can come hungry to the Eat Real Fest at Helms Bakery. This free festival will feature vendors that use sustainable, locally grown ingredients, and best of all—food and drink items will cost no more than $5 each. And if you’re worried about “Carmageddon” traffic, this festival has it all figured out. Not only is there free shuttle service, but the Eat Real Fest website has the lowdown on where to park and bike.

Kids Eat Free at Coco’s Bakery Restaurant

“Carmageddon” or no “Carmageddon,” kids can always eat free on Tuesdays and Wednesdays after 4 p.m. at Coco’s Bakery Restaurant. With the purchase of an adult entrée, children ages 10 and under can choose from silly spaghetti, kids’ burgers, as well as healthy veggies– all for the complimentary price of nada.

Children’s Meals under $7 at Johnnie’s Pastrami

This Culver City staple, just off the 405, is a fun outing for parents and kiddos who might be a little worn out after braving the extra traffic on Sepulveda this weekend. While moms and dads dine on steak sandwiches or hot pastramis, children under 12 years old can have a burger, fish or hot dog meal–complete with fries, a small drink and ice cream–all for under $7. Just remember, it’s for dine-in only.

Grab a "Carmageddon Burger" at Em's Artist Cafe

The “Carmageddon Burger” is a giant, thick, grilled buffalo patty of 100 percent fresh-ground, best quality, center-cut chuck featuring sautéed garlic aioli, butter lettuce, heirloom tomatoes, cheddar or swiss cheese on a challah bun. Em's will be serving this mega burger and organic lemonade all day Saturday and Sunday July 16 and 17 for just $10.
