Trial in Wrongful Death Suit Delayed
The mother of a woman murdered at the National Guard Armory in Culver City will have to wait another week for the suit she is bringing to get under way.
The civil trial for the wrongful death suit of Joann Harris, a pregnant woman murdered by California Army National Guard Sgt. Scott Ansman, has been delayed until Oct. 4.
Martha Lou Harris, the deceased woman's mother, is suing Ansman, the Army National Guard and the state of California, alleging her daughter's death could have been prevented if officials had investigated a claim that the sergeant wanted to kill Harris and her unborn child.
Ansman, who has a wife and three children, bludgeoned Harris to death in 2007 at the National Guard Armory in Culver City. Harris was four months pregnant at the time with a baby boy she claimed Ansman fathered.
In 2009, Ansman was convicted and sentenced to life in prison without parole for killing Harris and her fetus. DNA testing later revealed Ansman was not the baby's father.
