Sahli-Wells, O'Leary Announce City Council Kick Off Campaigns

Meghan Sahli-Wells announces she will stand for a City Council seat in the April 10 elections and Mayor Micheal O'Leary will be running for office once again.

Following much speculation, Meghan Sahli-Wells has officially thrown her hat into the ring and will stand for one of the four available seats on the City Council in the upcoming April 10 elections.

Sahli-Wells will kick off her campaign and declare her candidacy on Sunday Jan. 8 at the Gregg Fleishman Studio, 3850 Main Street (on the NE corner of Culver and Main). The event will run from 3 - 5 p.m. and the public is encouraged to attend to learn more about her candidacy.

There is bike parking at the front entrance of the gallery. Culver City Bus #1 stops right in front of the gallery and there is 2-hour free parking in the Ince parking structure at 9090 Culver Blvd., and in the Cardiff parking structure at 3846 Cardiff Ave.

According to an official press release, several officials have already endorsed Sahli-Wells, including U.S. Representative Karen Bass, Culver City Council member and former Mayor Christopher Armenta, School Board President Karlo Silbiger, and newly-elected School Board members Laura Chardiet and Nancy Goldberg.

The release also states that Sahli-Wells was awarded “Democrat of the Year” in 2010 by the L.A. County Democratic Party, and was recognized by the National Women’s Political Caucus (L.A. Westside chapter) in 2011 as one of 12 “Remarkable Women” alongside Attorney General Kamala Harris and Assembly members Holly Mitchell and Betsy Butler. She also served as second vice-chair of the Culver City Democratic Club.

Sahli-Wells is currently the chair and CEO of the nonprofit Culver City Downtown Neighborhood Association, is an advocate for environmental initiatves, smart transportation, bicycle lanes and rail integration in Culver City and is also a regular blogger for Culver City Patch.

Mayor Micheal O'Leary will also be hosting a kick-off campaign in his bid to be re-elected to the council. The event will take place on Saturday, Jan. 7 at Lindberg Park Stonehouse, at 5041 Rhoda Way, Culver City, 90230.

Mayor O'Leary's kick-off event is also open to the public and will run from 12 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

The new City Council elections will be held on April 10, 2012. The official filing period for nominations opened on Dec. 19 and runs through Jan. 17.
