Karen Bass Launches Congressional Re-Election Campaign in Culver City
Rep. Bass held a kick-off event for the newly drawn 37th Congressional District at the Culver City Teen Center in the Veterans Memorial complex on Saturday.
Despite the rain, scores of people turned out at the Culver City teen center between 10 a.m. and noon on Saturday morning to help Rep. Karen Bass kick off her reelection campaign for the 37th Congressional District. Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa also attended the event.
In order to qualify for the June primary ballot, Bass needs to collect 3,000 signatures from voters in the newly drawn district.
Patch caught up with Rep. Bass late Saturday afternoon when she came to speak at Jim Clarke’s kick-off event for the Culver City Council elections, which will be held April. 10.
Rep. Bass told Patch she was pleased with the turnout. “We already have 1700 of the 3,000 signatures needed for the June ballot,” she said.
Asked why she chose to launch her kick-off campaign in Culver City, Rep. Bass said, “I do most of my events in Culver City and the Veterans Memorial is a wonderful venue. It’s smack dab in the middle of the district.”
She added she had to keep reminding herself that it’s now the 37th – not the 33rd district she hopes to represent.
Rep. Bass flew in from Washington D.C. on Friday, but was headed back on Sunday, she said.

EVANS RUNNING FOR CONGRESS
Evans First to File to Challenge Rep. Karen Bass
Los Angeles CA ) Longtime Democratic Community Activist Mervin Evans pulls papers to run for Congress in District 37. Evans, a South Los Angeles Democrat, said he is concerned about Protecting Social Security and the Veterans Administration.
Candidate Remark:
I am honored that I am a Vietnam-Era Veteran, having served in the 1/10th Air Cav US Army. I will fight to protect our Veterans Administration programs. Our Gold Star Families, those who have lost loved ones in combat, must be honored through strong family support programs.
No one has sacrificed more for our freedom than our veterans and their families. Turning our backs on them will never be an option, rather we must continue to honor them for all they have given us and support their successful transition to post-deployment civilian life.

Other than using Culver City for her events, can anyone enumerate every benefit she has brought to our city since she has held elective office? I'd love to see the list.
