British Royals to Attend Sony Studio Event in Culver City

William and Kate will attend a hiring fair at Sony Studios on Sunday.

Sunday's visit to Culver City by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, popularly known as Prince William and Kate Middleton, may not be causing the same stir locally as April's presidential visit, but there is interest enough.

"Once again, Sony Pictures Entertainment is giving Culver City worldwide press exposure, which is always a positive," said Stephen Rose, CEO of Culver City's chamber of commerce. "To be the event venue for the president in April and now the Duke and Duchess is really great."

The Duke and Duchess are guests of honor at a hiring fair and service project being put on for war veterans and military spouses by Service Nation: Mission Service. In addition to attending a reception, the couple will assist in the assembly of 1,000 care packages for military children. The Duke's charity, The Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry, is partnering with Service Nation for the project.

"The city officials have not been included in any notice," Culver City Councilman Andrew Weissman said. "It's organized outside of the city."

Weissman said he wasn't even sure what the event was that the royal couple would be attending.

The Culver City Police Department does have a plan in place, said public information officer Lt. Ronald Iizuka. The police department has not been notified of any street closures in the works for the visit, Iizuka said, nor did he know how the Duke and Duchess would be traveling. The California Highway Patrol is helping with the royal's security escort, he said,

"If anything happens, we'll be ready for it," he said.
