Where to Shop for Back to School

Wondering which Culver City stores have the best backpacks, notebooks and uniforms? Patch has got you covered.

Believe it or not, it's already time to start thinking about back-to-school shopping. Where did the summer go?

I went looking around Culver City to see where to get all the essentials: paper and pens, backpacks, lunch boxes, school uniforms and kids' clothes. Here's what I found:

Target

Target has a big school supplies section filled with all the basics: pencils, erasers, crayons, markers, notebooks and binders. Target also has backpacks and lunch boxes, both plain and licensed character designs.

It also has a small uniform section--mostly basic khakis and polos--and of course it is well stocked in back-to-school clothes as well.

Toys R Us

Yes, it really does have school supplies--but only a few--and, of course, no uniforms or clothes. But to its credit, it has the largest selection of licensed character backpacks and lunch boxes in town.

Office Depot and Staples

Both of these big box stores have school supplies galore. And they have far more choices and types of each item than Target does. They have a few backpacks and lunch boxes, none with licensed designs, and neither sells uniforms or clothes.

Office Depot: 5640 Sepulveda Blvd.

Old Navy

You won't find any pencils to speak of, but this is a great place to get uniforms and other kids' clothes. Old Navy not only has khakis and polos, but also sweaters, jackets and several choices of skirts and culottes for girls. Its got backpacks and lunch boxes too in non-licensed designs.

The Children's Place

Again, you won't find pencils or protractors here, but alongside the adorable clothes for the fashion-savvy kid, the Children's Place has uniforms, backpacks and lunch boxes.

Bottom line: If you're a one-stop shopper, then Target is your store. You may not have as many choices for each item on your list, but you won't have to traipse all over town.

On the other hand, if you love a bargain and want to make sure you see everything Culver City has to offer for back-to-school shopping, then you may need to head to each of the stores on this list to find the exact items your kids need--and want.

Tip:  Keep watching the Sunday newspaper ads for big markdowns--you don't want to miss those.
